Active Police K9/PPD Instructor
1st GSD to title Ring 2 in Canada in last 2 decades
1st active PSA/FR team cross training & competing in both sports simultaneously at 1 1/2 years old.
We have a breeding program that has produced dogs that are active k9s with departments, swat teams and protection homes in Canada & USA.
On a consistent basis we provide seminars down in the United States and have even started a French Ring group that will be competing and holding their first completion in July 2023!
On a regular basis we help shelters evaluate and re-home dogs that have been surrendered or picked up.
He has a knack for reading dogs, doing research and working with handlers to get every team to be the best that they can no matter your dog sport or working capability.
I have always had a knack with animals. Horses, cats, dogs. We always had dogs and I loved to train them. It wasn’t a certain kind of training. It was what came naturally for me and the dog. Clicker, balanced, pawsitive - you name it we did it. Having calm energy helps.
When I moved to Mexico I started training more seriously. 3 to 4 times a week. We got a female Mal pup and trained her for protection. The trainer that I went to also did sports. So then I had to get a dog for sports. My love for training grew and evolved. I did protection training, sport training and I did FCM Obedience and Rally. We did exceptionally well. I also attended every training opportunity and seminar that I could get my hands on.
My friends and family kept asking for tips and tricks for training. Then we realized that there was a lot of people who needed help and we started helping others to train their dogs.
I do a sport called French Ring and I have been doing it for about 16 years. I am apart
of a club and we have about 14 dogs in total. I love how each dog is unique and each dog is trained differently. Dogs learn like us - in different ways.
I have had a Canadian French Ring 1 and Ring 2 Champion and I now a 2023 Ring 3 Champion. I have also entered the Judgeship program for French Ring.
A couple of years ago we did PSA. Protection Sport Association. We did well. Passed our PDC after 2 training sessions and then went on to get our PSA 1 under Jerry Bradshaw. In 6 months we did a French Ring Brevet and a PSA PDC, then a French Ring Level 1 - first point, PSA Level 1 and our closing point to be titled in French Ring 1. April to September. That was nuts.
We compete at an international level. I love competing. It shows you the holes and what you need to train. It helps me to read not only my dog but other dogs as well.
I love helping pet owners. Educating them and their dog. A better relationship and understanding = better training and behaving. The ah-ha moment when everything clicks just warms my heart!
We also work with dogs that have been surrendered. We help the shelters to evaluate the dogs and give recommendations for rehabbing and rehoming. Then, at times, we are
able to help the new owners with transitioning the dogs. Pretty cool if you ask me. These poor dogs don’t trust anyone and you have to get them to trust you.
I am also taking my Elite K9 Athlete Specialist Program. It is the only canine fitness program out there that is specifically designed to meet the needs of the high-drive, sport, working dog and the active family pet. Great for being able to notice injuries before they become dire, for being able to help rehab dogs from injuries and build programs to keep these working dogs be strong and powerful.
Having our own breeding/selection program and seeing our pups that have been placed in Police departments, Swat teams and protection homes across Canada and the USA - absolutely makes us proud.
Not only do we train pets, housebreak puppies, help dogs from shelters, aggressive or reactive dogs, dogs for sport, police and protection dogs but we also do seminars and love every moment that we are able to educate handlers and their dogs.
Reach out, we can help you!
Saul was invited to decoy at a competition in France in late November 2022. What an incredible experience. A competition laid out over 3 days and 30 dogs! France is where French Ring originated and it is such an honour to have been invited. The family who hosted us was amazing and a beautiful friendship has flourished. The club where the competition was held welcomed us with open arms. A humbling experience to see people that you follow on social media training and competing.
One of our favourite clubs in Mexico, we consider them family, invited Saul to decoy at a pre-selective competition in January 2023 at the SPEX Club in Puebla, Mexico! Saul recently renewed his decoy certifications and placed 2nd and is very excited to be among an amazing jury for this competition.
We finished off 2022 competing in St-Nabord, France. Not only did we meet some amazing people but we created many friendships. An experience I will never forget. We passed, with a 334.400 in France! That is huge for me. Our first time to travel to Europe and a very long trip to get there. Not our best score but certainly a top experience for me. Yet another adventure for us to take in and improve upon!
We arrived late and trained in a down pour. Welcome to a cold that chills you to the bone! We trained at the club the next day and during training N'zo lost the resin cap on the tooth that he broke in Mexico. So with our friend's recommendation, off to Germany N'zo and I travelled to repair his tooth before he competes; while Saul stayed to decoy the first day of the competition. We returned late the same night with 4 capped teeth! 24-36 hours to wait before he could bite - just in time for him to compete.
Onto the field we go, without a practise bite to try out the new teeth and he pushed through like never before. This dog is so solid. We can throw him into any situation and he performs. My heart dog for sure. A huge thank you to all of those we met in France and Germany. What an incredible community.
Onto the 2023 season and see what this year brings!
What an incredible weekend!!
N’zo’s trip started last week. Saul brought him to Mexico to get his tooth fixed and do some training as we broke a tooth at the final in Mexico.
3 days of rest and then let the training begin. Long days of training, working on some of the things that went wrong at our last trial only 3 weeks prior.
From zero to 30 points on the basket - the pinnacle exercise in French Ring. I couldn’t be happier. This is an exercise that you begin when they are puppies and it is always a work in progress. Thank you to Saul Garcia Long days of training and you were sick. You are always willing to go the extra mile in training. Xoxo
It was awesome to compete with the brothers and sisters of my dog. Awesome to see that so many are competing in this sport. In fact, we placed second to N’zo’s brother. Such an amazing performance that will repeated!
This weekend, we placed 2nd with a score of 367.88 / 400. I am so happy with that score.
My friend and team mate Laurie received a first place in level 2 and a third place in level 3! Such an amazing effort by all who competed.
I love competing, love my team and love this dog!!
Next up, end of November!!
We finished 5th/12 at the 2022 Mexican Championship in Mexico City. Not the result we were shooting for, however, we couldn’t be more proud of N’zo.
A day of travel arriving the day before, a field that he has never been on, no open field to practise on and decoys that he has never bit on.
He proved that our training works! He also showed a problem that we know about and isn’t fixed. Back to bases. Of course, he did something that was totally out of left field. Lol. Welcome to WHY we trial. He also broke a tooth on the first bitework exercise out of 7. I spoke to the judge, I watched him carefully and he didn’t show any signs of biting any differently or sensitivity so we continued. N’zo showed heart all of the way to the end.
As frustrating as it is in the moment, opportunities show themselves so that you can become better - and we will! It is like an intricate puzzle and each dog has it’s own pieces. I think that is why we do this sport. It isn’t easy. We build and form these dogs from pups. We know their genetics and train based on their genetics. Use what comes naturally and teach them tools to help them be their best! We know exactly where they come from and where they are going. Gosh I love this process and evolution. It sure takes a village and we have one heck of a village!!
Not only do we train them. A good number of our pups are serving in enforcement.
Single or dual purpose dogs.
